Using data from the 2012/2014 Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC), we explored relationships between literacy skills and unemployment for U.S. adults. Our focus on literacy and employment closely align with AERA’s theme - as we explicitly question how adults’ educational opportunities and literacy skills impact the persistent problem of employment. Further, how can our results (re)imagine the possibilities and necessity of how skills acquired through formal schooling and those practiced in everyday life work together to actualize the dreams of public education?
