Abstract

Each student with a learning disability (LD) is unique and learns slightly differently. 21st Century jobs are more technical in nature and LD students are capable of pursing STEM or CTE careers when supported in an appropriate and individual way. A latent class analysis (LCA) was performed due to the individual differences of LD students. Three factors were analyzed that could aid LD students in pursuing STEM and/or CTE fields through their engagement in individualized education planning (IEP), actively seeking accommodations needed, and maintaining a high level of self-determination. Results suggest that LD students who are engaged in their IEP, possess self-determination, and can utilize accommodations are more successful in STEM and CTE fields.
