Improving Literacy Teaching and Learning: Findings From an Urban, Collaborative Professional Development Project

Abstract

This paper examines a literacy professional development and coaching initiative and its impact on literacy teaching and learning in urban elementary schools Our program aims to produce teachers who will excel at teaching reading to diverse, multilingual children, and who will advocate for a coherent and sustainable program of literacy instruction. Using a mixed-methods design, we report on the impact on teacher efficacy and student reading achievement.
