Mon, April 16, 10:35am to 12:05pm, New York Hilton Midtown, Floor: Third Floor, Americas Hall 1-2 - Exhibit Hall

Abstract

China ranks number 1 in the number of visiting scholars it sends abroad for professional development. China’s visiting scholar program has become a worldwide recognized phenomenon, and its size and impact have reached the highest in history. However, few studies have looked into the operation and impact of the visiting scholar programs on university faculty. In this work, we explore the purpose, cost, process and impact of China’s visiting scholar program. Using data from 95 visiting scholars sent by the Beijing Teachers’ Training Center for Higher Education, we evaluated the quality and impact of the visiting scholar program. China’s visiting scholar program has great implications for other countries who want to take faculty development to the next level.
