Building on previous work of rural social justice leadership (Maxwell, Locke, & Scheurich, 2014), the purpose of this exploratory narrative inquiry (Erlandson, et al., 1993) was to meet Furman’s (2012) call in the literature for real world examples of social justice leadership, not only in K-12, but also by extension to examine the perspectives and lived experiences (Andrews, Squire, & Tambokou, 2008) of rural higher education social justice leaders from a rural Hispanic serving South Texas Institute of Higher Education (IHE). According to Greenstein (2017) “the higher education leadership bench is neither deep enough nor diverse enough.”
