Italian Induction Model Since 2014: Bridging Two Sides of Teachers' Professional Development

Mon, April 16, 4:05 to 6:05pm, New York Hilton Midtown, Floor: Concourse Level, Concourse C Room

Abstract

Since 2014 the Italian Ministry of Education, University and Research (MIUR) has changed the induction model and has introduced the teacher portfolio as a reflection tool to reach the awareness of own’s educational philosophy. The model implied practices of alternation among classroom activities, workshops managed by experts and online activities (e-portfolio) created to reflect about what had been done in the classroom. The contribution analyses the results of the last three years in which newly qualified teachers (28.000 in 2014, 80.000 in 2015 e 26.500 in 2016) were monitored with both quantitative and qualitative tools.
The analysis shows that the portfolio has fostered the reflection process and the promotion of the previous experience and has activated a self-perception as professional.
