In this study, we unpack the relationship between reading level and creativity and problem solving across grade levels. In Question 1, we were interested in the degree to which reading level, as described through reading inventories, would be related to children’s creativity and problem solving. Question 2 addressed the match between teachers’ perceptions of their students’ creativity and problem solving and an independent assessment of the creativity and problem solving ability displayed by children. Results showed that creativity increased over time and through grades, that reading level was associated with levels of creativity, but that teachers’ perceptions of students’ creativity and problem solving were overinflated.
