While preparing preservice teachers to teach with technology is important for contemporary education, little is known about the paradigm and dynamics that shape the field of research on learning to teach with technology. This review of the literature explores both the overarching paradigm of the field and subfields within the paradigm. Drawing on literature from 2013, when CAEP assumed instituted “Technology and Digital Media” as a cross-cutting theme, and using a combination of data science and qualitative paradigmatic analysis, we find a highly centralized field with little variation in terms of purposes, genres, and traditions. We provide generative direction for the field, including focusing on the use of ethnographic data, seeking social justice, and cultivating community-teacher partnerships and advocacy.
