Our study involves 80 teachers from elementary, junior high, and senior high schools participating in multi-year professional learning activities. Our analysis examines science teacher beliefs, teacher artifacts (lesson plans, action research, teacher-created tasks, etc.), and observations of science lessons to draw conclusions about how science teachers are making sense of the new standards (NGSS), where they are leveraging prior experience to facilitate implementation of new content/practices in these standards, and where they are struggling (conceptually, practically, and philosophically).
