Preparing "Ambitious" Teachers for California's Diverse Schools: A Longitudinal Study

Abstract

If teacher preparation programs committed to educational equity in public schools are to meet their goals for preparing effective social justice educators, then they must be certain that the models of teaching that they promote are actually practiced by their graduates. My presentation will describe the teacher knowledge and practices prioritized by my program, the extent to which this sample of 24 program graduates is implementing these practices, and the ways in which our program and our support to alumni can ensure higher levels of consistency between what is presented to pre-service teachers and what they implement as in-service teachers.
