Empirical research is needed to establish whether adult community members beliefs about art education impact their feelings and experiences about advocating for threatened art education programs in low socioeconomic status (SES) communities. This study contributes to areas of need by examining the relationship between art education, SES, cultural capital, and advocacy by examining the following question: What are the experiences and beliefs of parents/guardians, teachers, and administrators in and about art education in a Title I elementary school? A semi-structured interview protocol included two arts-based questions that asked participants to draw in addition to the verbal interview. Results from the study indicate that participants believed art should be taught in schools, but were not necessarily advocates for art programs.
