Rearticulating Official Curriculum: Preparing Preservice Educators With a Foundation in Indigenous Studies

Abstract

This paper presents an analysis of key documents that guide the curriculum, instruction, assessment, and policies in the preparation of K-12 educators. The purpose of this paper is three-fold: (1) To present an analysis of national and state standards for preparing educators to work with Indigenous youth and Indigenous Nations; (2) To present an analysis of two educator preparation programs in a public university in the Southwest for their attention to the cultures and experiences of Indigenous Peoples; and (3) To present curricular reform developed by Indigenous faculty at a college of education at a public university in the Southwest.
