Placed within an ongoing, controversial local land issue where the authors are residents, this paper is a movement toward a thick description of the issue, pointing at the question: Why and how might educators in our area—in formal places of learning like childcare centers, K-12 schools, and institutions of higher education, as well as in informal places of learning like community groups—teach about this contentious local issue? Our audience is both local educators and non-local curriculum workers and educational researchers.
