This qualitative study explores knowledge acquired by practitioners in their work with transition programs for reentry youth as they endeavor to return to school/communities in NYC. These practitioners are located in multiple sites within education, criminal justice system and other agencies. The study describes practitioners’ work within/across organizations serving reentry youth in order to inform policy/practice about the reentry phenomenon, ways to enhance service provision, interrupt trajectories of recidivism, and improve educational outcomes. The study includes mapping pathways youth travel during their transition back to school; description of knowledge/expertise of personnel working with reentry youth; and analyses of work processes across organizations around service provision and identifying obstacles. This research is informed by organizational theory, knowledge management/sharing, and organizational forgetting/learning.
