A Family Faces Separation Due to Deportation: An Autoethnographic Approach

Abstract

In this research, the author examines a decade-long journey of how one family (the author’s own) faced and overcame the challenges of deportation. The purpose of this auto-ethnographic research is to offer a first-person account and critical analysis of how members of one family learned to cope with separation due to deportation. The study was situated within the theoretical constructs of Funds of Identity (Esteban-Guitart & Moll, 2014) and Self-Efficacy (Bandura, 1997) and the research focused on the socio-emotional effects of family separation due to deportation.
