An Evaluation of Pre-K 4 SA: Results From the First Year of Full Implementation

Abstract

The purpose of the current report is to present the evaluation findings of the Pre-K 4 SA program during its first full year of implementation. Pre-K 4 SA, funded by the city of San Antonio, serves many children who are at risk for falling behind their peers and for lacking in kindergarten readiness, with the goal of increasing early childhood quality and school readiness across the city of San Antonio. More than 1,700 Pre-K 4 SA children’s kindergarten readiness outcomes were compared to a nationally representative sample of children. Results indicated that Pre-K 4 SA closed or eliminated initial gaps across all six outcomes for participating children. Findings will be discussed in reference to other similar initiatives.
