This paper explores the potential for universities in Atlantic Canada to contribute to the civic engagement and education of their graduates. Through the results of a multiple site case study, using appreciative inquiry and conversational inquiry to collect data, the paper examines the work of three university programs. These programs share a commitment to civic education, using different pedagogies to structure their programs. Drawing on the historical, social, political, and economic context of the Atlantic Canadian region, the paper argues for interdisciplinary, place-conscious, and justice-oriented pedagogies in civic education.
