Breaking Down Barriers to Facilitate Teachers Engaging With Research

Mon, April 16, 2:15 to 3:45pm, New York Marriott Marquis, Floor: Eighth Floor, Manhattan Ballroom

Abstract

This paper looks at recent research to propose a conceptual model for teaching as a profession. It brings together the empirical and theoretical research base from research use, practitioner/action research, educational leadership, and learning communities. Three specific research studies conducted by the author provide the foundation for the model, which conceptualizes teaching as a profession in which teachers acquire, grow, and apply a locally created and communally advanced body of “specialized knowledge”.
