Abstract

The purpose of this paper was to explore teachers' TPACK, their use of technology, and their perceptions of a 1:1 laptop initiative at a Midwestern urban public high school. The researchers collected quantitative data using a pre- and post-survey design. They found that although teachers used more technology in class, most of them did not spend more time using technology for lesson planning and communication. Although teachers developed TK during the implementation, they reported lower scores for TPK and TPACK afterward. Overall, teachers were both more confident and positive about the changes brought by the initiative before the implementation. The results pinpointed that more qualitative studies were needed, as well as more targeted and content-specific professional development for teachers.
