Influences of Student, Parent, Teacher, and School Factors on Students' Mathematics Achievements: A Path Analysis

Sun, April 15, 10:35am to 12:05pm, The Parker, Floor: Third Floor, Mirus Room

Abstract

High school students’ mathematics achievements are presumably shaped by the interaction of various student internal factors and external factors, such as parents, teachers, and school environment. Drawing on the data from 2009 High School Longitudinal Study, this study examines such an assumption by focusing on three student internal factors including students’ expectation for achievements, sense of school engagement, and school belongings as well as three external factors to students, such as parents’ expectations, teachers’ math identity, support of technology and school counselling. The path analysis in the study found that each of all the internal and external factors contributed importantly to student achievements but also all internal factors and external factors interacted with each other in extorting their influences.
