Modeling Family's Decision of Enrollment at Schools of Choice

Fri, April 13, 12:00 to 1:30pm, Crown Plaza Times Square, Floor: Fourth Floor, Times Square B Room

Abstract

This study, by combining application data from a lottery-based school choice program and students’ actual enrollment data, examines what factors are related to family’s decision of enrollment. It further explores if relative advantages of the schools of choice versus alternative school options play a role in the decision making process. Results show that academic competitiveness, distance from home to school, rank of the school, as well as other properties associated with the application matter in the decision of enrollment.
