Academic learning places high challenges on self-regulation and the strategic orientation of learning processes. In our studies, we focus on resource management strategies as an important learning-strategy predictor for academic success. We developed and validated a new instrument for the assessment of strategy knowledge and, moreover, for the assessment of deficits in strategy use. This instrument was evaluated in a study with a sample of N = 198 first-semester university students. Results show good reliability and indications for construct validity based on a clear factorial structure and convergent as well as discriminant correlations. Moreover, we found that resource management accounts for variance of university grades over and above cognitive abilities and high school grades.
