Mon, April 16, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Park Central Hotel New York, Floor: Ballroom Level, Forum

Abstract

It is inevitable that discrepancies may arise in some schools between actions and words in process of gaining legitimacy and assimilating into organizational environment. Discrepancies containing unethical elements correspond to organizational hypocrisy and entail various pathological organizational behaviours. Thus, it is necessary to examine under what conditions hypocrisy is more likely to happen and its consequences in schools to get an in-depth understanding about organizational hypocrisy. The purpose of this paper was to advance conceptual understanding of organizational hypocrisy in educational organizations by determining its antecedents and consequences. Constructed models revealed that organizational legitimacy and ethical leadership are negative antecedents of organizational hypocrisy and this pathological behavior negatively affects organizational commitment, organizational citizenship, motivation and job satisfaction of teachers.
