Rac(e)ing Educational Leadership: Engaging Critical Race Praxis to Prepare School Leaders for Social Justice

Tue, April 17, 10:35am to 12:05pm, New York Hilton Midtown, Floor: Third Floor, Trianon Ballroom

Abstract

Forming the basis for a provocative dialogue on leadership for social justice, and written to amplify and center the knowledge, experiences, and culturally relevant pedagogies of female educational leaders of color, this essay introduces a unique model of educational leadership development¬ – Critically Responsive Transformative Multicultural Leadership or CR-TML. CR-TML combines critical multicultural education, education leadership, and a collage of critical pedagogies with five instructional practices rooted in critical professional development methodologies (Kohli, Martinez, & Ortiz, 2015). Through reflective analysis, the implementation of a school administration preparation program employing CR-TML is examined, expanding on research exploring the inquiry, “How do we effectively prepare P-12 school principals to lead with a commitment to social justice?”
