The Effectiveness of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme in Fostering International-Mindedness in Different Cultural Contexts

Sun, April 15, 10:35am to 12:05pm, New York Marriott Marquis, Floor: Fifth Floor, Westside Ballroom Salon 3

Abstract

As the mission for a global education increases in prominence, the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) is often regarded as being at the forefront of this sort of education. This research assesses the effectiveness of IBDP in cultivating international mindedness in its students by comparing the international mindedness of both IBDP and non-IBDP students at an international school. This study compares students that attend international schools in the United States, Switzerland, and South Korea. This will allow for a better understanding on how context may be affecting development of the current conceptualization of international mindedness. Students will be assessed using Béneker, van Dis, and van Middlekoop's (2014) Questionnaire and a follow-up semi-structured interview.
