Sat, April 14, 8:15 to 9:45am, New York Marriott Marquis, Floor: Fifth Floor, Westside Ballroom Salon 1

Abstract

College access has long been a critical issue for education equality in Taiwan and across the world. The joint college recruitment system in Taiwan requires all participated colleges publicly announce its admission requirements. The data provides an opportunity to study the changing role of standardized tests in admission.
The study investigated the importance of standardized tests in college admission and the change of it. Totally 11059 entries were collected.
The results showed that along with the year, four other factors could explain the 93.2 % of variances in the average weight of standardized tests in total scores. Those factors were location, public or private university, research reputation of the university, and the possibility of closure of the university.
