The Role of Teachers in Full-Service Community Schools

Sun, April 15, 10:35am to 12:05pm, New York Marriott Marquis, Floor: Fifth Floor, Westside Ballroom Salon 4

Abstract

Teachers were surveyed in four Full Service Community Schools (FSCS) in a metropolitan public school setting. Teachers self-report a lack of awareness of programming and benefits that are available to families attending the school. As a link between families and school services, schools with FSCS programming need intentional teacher professional development to provide the information, resources, and skills necessary to assist teachers in becoming effective referral agents that can assist their students and their families in accessing needed programming that is offered at FSCS schools. Consequently, an increase in meeting the needs of students and families should also improve academic performance.
