This discourse analysis study aims to explore what instructional designer identities are produced in and through the language used in job postings for instructional design positions. Very little attention has been given to instructional designer identity construction by companies and/or other educational institutions. As such, we don’t aim to look at the internal characteristic of ‘identity’, but to understand the very notion of it as being produced in and through language based on discursive psychology as methodological and theoretical perspectives. Data was collected from some job search websites. Our findings illustrates the varying identities that were produced in the job posting, highlighting how the language was wielded to craft particular constructions of what it means to be an instructional designer.
