This paper seeks to extend the field’s conversations on co-teaching and preservice teacher preparation through examining the experiences of teacher candidates and mentor teachers at STEM Academy, a K-8 school engaged in a co-teaching student teaching model, and the ways in which co-teaching supported collaborative practices and values for novice and mentor teachers. We argue that teacher preparation programs should be designing clinical experiences that prepare candidates for more collaborative and interdisciplinary environments and co-teaching is an essential part of establishing these dispositions early in their careers.
