Imagining Futurities, for a Future: A Particularized, Anticolonial STEM Futurity for Youth

Sat, April 14, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Millennium Broadway New York Times Square, Floor: Eighth Floor, Gallery 8

Abstract

Facing global ecological crisis, this paper engages speculative methodologies to (re)imagine a place-based futurity of an out-of-school-time, youth STEM program for inter-being justice within the Global North. Specifically, this futurity is presented narratively, from an imagined point in the future as if it were the past, to rupture notions of linear progress and to allow for new (im)possibilities. Using knot diagrams in the discussion, the dialogic and intertwined tensions of 1) incommensurable notions of justice between the Global Norths, Global Souths, and Indigenous communities within and between both and 2) their conflicting philosophical conceptualizations of STEMs and its purposes are co-engaged to offer a generative (re)imagining of STEM curriculum and pedagogy for youth for inter-being justice.
