This paper seeks to articulate an emerging Oceanic Critical Race Theory by analyzing critical race theory (CRT) and six specific branches of CRT, and ideas from Pacific scholars and communities. While CRT in education has proved to be effective and powerful in analyzing educational structures and institutions that negatively impact communities of color and other marginalized communities, it has not completely taken into account the social/historical, past and contemporary experiences of Pacific Islanders. While Oceanic CRT builds upon the important work various scholars have already contributed, it also humbly adds critical ideas that account for Pacific Islanders.
