In recent decades, interest in clinical fieldwork, its effects on new teachers, and how to effectively integrate it with preparatory coursework has increased. This study examines the influence of clinical preparation on the retention and instructional beliefs of mathematics teachers trained in a prominent selective alternative teacher certification program (ATCP) in New York City. Analysis of logistic regression and linear regression models shows that clinical preparation in an ATCP has long-term effects for mathematics teacher retention and instructional beliefs.
