This paper recounts the primary events and impact of the segregation and integration of the US military by using as a lens the intersection of the mission of the armed forces, the actions of civil rights leaders in leveraging current events and the political desires of three Presidents of the USA. Historical and current documents, videos and archives were used to inform this research. The behind the scenes documentation and event memos provided the insight on a theme that emerged: “history does repeat itself”. This theme was used to critically analyze the events that integrated the Armed Forces and were similar to desegregation within the communities across the United States. It just happened a few decades earlier.
