A Study of the Effects of NAME on Student Achievement in Brazil

Sun, April 15, 10:35am to 12:05pm, New York Marriott Marquis, Floor: Fifth Floor, Westside Ballroom Salon 3

Abstract

NAME is a learning system for Brazilian public-school students from kindergarten to the ninth grade. Though the NAME curriculum covers a range of subject areas, this study focuses on academic achievement in Portuguese and mathematics at grades 5 and 9 as measured by the Prova Brasil. The results of this study indicate that exposure to NAME had a positive effect on student achievement in math and Portuguese. The results also indicate that school complexity and the length of time teachers work at a school moderate the effect of NAME on achievement.
