Sat, April 14, 12:25 to 1:55pm, New York Hilton Midtown, Floor: Third Floor, Americas Hall 1-2 - Exhibit Hall

Abstract

To investigate the effects of faculty-discipline and LMS-usage experience on faculty use of LMS, we conducted a mixed method study on 557 faculty members. Our quantitative analyses found significant main effects of discipline and LMS-usage experience on faculty use of LMS. To identify the discipline specific faculty perspectives on the strengths and weaknesses of LMS, we content analyzed the open-ended responses. Our macro level analyses showed, irrespective of their disciplines, faculty members reported similar issues as weaknesses of LMS, however our micro level analyses showed differences in their responses by discipline. Conversely, both at the macro and micro levels, faculty members from all disciplines reported similar issues as strengths of LMS. We discussed the implications of our findings.
