Abstract

Emerging mobile technologies are rapidly changing healthcare professional practices, and more importantly, they make highly customized learning possible, and may help achieve healthy life styles. “mHealth” thus has been recognized as one of the fastest growing fields, and demands interdisciplinary approaches to support its research and development. This paper reports a comprehensive review of relevant literature from a pool of 1,212 articles in multiple disciplines to examine the current status of mHealth research and development, and proposes an extensive framework to guide mHealth technology design, in particular for customized learning and just-in-time health support.
