The main objective of this study is to compare teachers’ and students’ perceptions of how teachers in China are implementing secondary school reforms in public schools in 2017 and 2012. Areas of interest include curriculum, teaching strategies, student evaluation methods, special education, classroom management, high-stakes examination, integration of technology, and post-secondary aspirations. Major sources of data were anonymous surveys for teachers and students and classroom observations at 12 sample schools in two autonomous regions. The surveys concluded that sample teachers were using more varieties of teaching methods and student evaluation strategies that included activity-based learning and integration of technology. The surveys also revealed that sample teachers continued to have management problems as a result of the reforms.
