Research has not offered a theoretically grounded and methodologically rigorous analysis of how school organizational conditions affect teacher turnover. This study fills this gap analyzing the Schools and Staffing Survey (SASS) to trace the relationship between former teacher’s perceptions of school organizational conditions and their decision to leave teaching due to job dissatisfaction. The findings of this analysis result in a comprehensive theoretical framework for understanding the interplay among various dimensions of school organizations and job dissatisfaction as a reason to leave teaching among former teachers. The constructed and examined school organizational factors are teacher’s perceptions of administrator effectiveness, academic organization, job
responsibilities, and teaching assignment.
