Measurement Concepts in Virtual Reality for Children With Cerebral Palsy

Tue, April 17, 10:35am to 12:05pm, New York Hilton Midtown, Floor: Third Floor, Trianon Ballroom

Abstract

This study addresses the development of appropriate formative assessment to address learning and instruction of mathematics, and specifically spatial measurement among children with cerebral palsy. This research builds on established research on measurement learning in mathematics education (e.g., Sarama & Clements, 2009) to examine children’s with cerebral palsy conceptual understanding of measurement topics and to evaluate the extent to which a virtual reality intervention might improve measurement assessment and learning for children with cerebral palsy who may lack the gross and fine motor skills needed for tactile reasoning and hands-on activities integral to measurement.
