This study compared the effect of geomin versus target rotation criteria on the quality of exploratory factor analysis solutions with correlated factors and a large and complex underlying structure and incomplete substantive measurement theory. Previous research was extended by (a) comparing geomin and target rotation in large and complex pattern matrices with correlated factors (b) comparing the default geomin rotation criterion to a revised geomin rotation criterion that has been recommended in the literature for large pattern matrices. Results indicated that geomin rotation generally performed better than target rotation. Findings also provide support for using a revised version of geomin rotation with regard stability and accuracy of the factor solution in large pattern matrices with correlated factors.
