This study examines the ways dynamic graphing calculator mediates students’ mathematical learning, and explores how preservice mathematics teachers choose to integrate dynamic tools. Through the lens of Doerr and Zangor’s (2000) framework, findings suggest that the features in a dynamic graphing calculator both replicate and extend previously documented classroom roles of graphing calculators. In addition, pre-service teachers revealed abilities and skills in designing instructional planning and approaches while incorporating specific affordances and feedback of the tool. The results also highlight ways the teachers used the interactive nature of the technology as a discussion platform and supported students’ mathematical learning in a shared activity space.
