Abstract

Two alumni of the school share themes from interviews (n=21) conducted with the 2017 cohort of YPAR researchers, while also reflecting on their own experiences as former students in the course in the process. In interviewing, transcribing, and coding data from 30-40 minute reflective interviews with 21 participants in Year 5 of the project/curriculum, two alumni were moved by the answer to one question they asked, “Are you a researcher?” The presentation explores the variety of responses, from the confident “yes” to the reluctant “no,” to unpack the various transformations of doing research and the impact of the identity of “researcher” on students’ larger academic, personal and social identities.
