Usability Testing of an iBooks Textbook for Diverse Learners

Sat, April 14, 10:35am to 12:05pm, New York Hilton Midtown, Floor: Third Floor, Americas Hall 1-2 - Exhibit Hall

Abstract

This paper investigated the usability of an iBooks textbook for diverse learners. The researcher applied four prototypical usability metrics (i.e., task completion rate, error count, task completion time, and test-level satisfaction rate) of 14 usability tasks to measure user experience of the researcher-created iBooks textbook. The results suggested that the interactive features generic to the iBooks, such as interactive image and Keynote slides, were intuitively usable for participants. However, several basic learning-assistance functions, such as note taking and text searching, impacted participants’ intuitive use of the book.
