Inner and Outer Q-Matrices for Multistep Problems

Abstract

This paper builds a heterogeneous partial credit model for multi-step problems used with cognitively diagnostic models. It expresses the relationship between the skills and the task outcomes with two Q-matrixes: an outer Q-matrix which describes which skills are needed for any step in the problem and an inner Q-matrix which describes the skills for the completion of each step.
