While the lack of cultural relevancy in leadership education and opportunities affects all students, this paper argues that this white washed sterile approach to leadership education not only affects Latinx students and students of color, but is overall detrimental to their academic success and academic capital. Focusing specifically on Latinx students allows for experiences of this population to be highlighted and seen as a “stand-alone”, rather than the all too generalized “minority student” experience. Additionally as the political climate continues to criminalize and dehumanize Latinos, this paper problematizes, analyses, and provides evidence as to why it is imperative for students to see themselves, their culture, their challenges, and triumphs in leadership curriculum.
