Examining Two Models of Baby Watching Programs and the Promise Born From Piloting One

Sat, April 14, 4:05 to 6:05pm, Park Central Hotel New York, Floor: Mezzanine Level, Manhattan A Room

Abstract

B.A.S.E. stands for BabyWatching Against Aggression and Anxiety for Sensitivity and Empathy. It is a very low cost, classroom-based anti-violence program that was first implemented in Europe. This paper compares and contrasts B.A.S.E. to another baby watching program better known in Canada and the U.S. called the Roots of Empathy vis-a-vis basic history, major operational components / approaches, and evidence of effectiveness. The challenges and the promise found in piloting the first B.A.S.E. program in the U.S. is also described, in addition to areas for future research.
