Supporting Leadership Preparation Programs in Redesign Efforts Using Improvement Science

Fri, April 13, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Park Central Hotel New York, Floor: Ballroom Level, Forum

Abstract

The Supporting Continuous Improvement in Principal Preparation (SCIPP) study involves two multi-year redesign initiatives: UCEA’s Program Design Network (PDN) and the University Principal Preparation Initiative (UPPI) Faculty Professional Learning Community (PLC). Both use Improvement Science principles and processes (Byrk, et al., 2015; Langely, et al., 2009) to enact programmatic changes. SCIPP involves 31 educational leadership programs and focuses on faculty engagement in facilitated cross-institutional learning communities where participants: 1) build collective capacity, 2) develop deep understandings of program quality, 3) engage in continuous improvement cycles, and 4) share and develop program resources. This research study focuses on the influence participation in SCIPP has had on both individual faculty members as well as the programs in which they serve.
