This paper explores the experiences of three Black women early-career teachers in an urban teacher residency program participating in a larger narrative inquiry study. Three researchers come alongside these women and attempt to make sense of how teacher preparation and induction programs can best support new Black women teachers. Looking across our participants’ stories, we will attend to the ways race and racism shape their experiences. We will draw attention to the moments of tension and how stories can inform critical pedagogy in teacher education programs.
