Over 2500 post-secondary students from 13 universities in Romanian and Moldovan were surveyed for their beliefs and behaviors related to academic integrity. Among our findings: (1) how often students saw others engage in academically dishonest behavior, and how acceptable they perceived these behaviors, were reliable predictors of engaging in those behaviors, (2) the two samples yielded three identical factors of academically dishonest behaviors - cheating on exams, using unauthorized materials on exams, and taking an exam for someone else, (3) students who faced consequences for being caught engaging in these behaviors perceived the acceptability of these behaviors no differently from those who had not been caught. These results have implications for efforts to reduce academically dishonest behavior in post-secondary settings.
