Utilizing data collected from three activist-scholar-mothers this paper discusses our work as academics, mothers, and students of the HipHop generation. In this paper, we address the following questions: What does it means to do research with and for communities to which we are still connected to? How and why do we leverage (i.e. hustle) academic institutions to gain space for Black and Brown mothers’ stories to be told? Where is there harm and reciprocity in the activist experiences of Black and Brown women in this historic time? (e.g. considering movements such as: Mothers of the Movement, #BlackLivesMatter)
